We are passionate about the benefits of breastfeeding for both mother and child and offer a variety of services geared towards the nursing mother’s needs, they include:

• Breastfeeding classes
• Support groups
• Free 10 minute individual consultations at the office
• 1 hour affordable appointments
• Salt Lake County Classes are available beginning in November. If you are interested in these classes, please call or email us for details.

Breastfeeding Classes will help you learn:

• How to feed your baby
• How to get a proper latch
• How often baby needs to eat
• How to care for breasts
• How to avoid sore nipples
• How to get more sleep while breastfeeding your baby
• The joys and benefits of breastfeeding

Cost is $20 or $15 per couple if you are taking any childbirth class at Mothering Your Way, LLC.

Babes in arms are always welcome, please feel free to nurse your children on premises.

Our hope is that you feel comfortable in this sanctuary created for mothers by mothers.

I am available to assist mothers with breastfeeding and/or pumping and storing milk. If you need help with your baby’s latch, sore nipples, feeling discouraged, fussy baby, low milk supply or other breastfeeding related issues, please give me a call to set up an appointment.

Rates:

In Office:

• $15 30 minutes
• $25 60 minutes
• $40 90 minutes

At Home Visits

• $20 30 minutes within 8 miles
• $30 60 minutes within 8 miles
• $45 90 minutes within 8 miles

Beyond 8 miles there are additional travel fees.

Come and learn the secrets to reducing pain in childbirth and having a more relaxed and enjoyable labor and birth.

We have developed an innovative series of four week natural childbirth classes. Sessions are three hours each, one evening per week. A weekend “fast” option is also available for those with busier schedules.

In these classes, expectant parents will learn:

"Hands-On" Lamaze Class

• How to take the fear out of childbirth
• The anatomy and physiology of normal birth
• Variations on normal labor, and how to respond to them
• The emotional roadmap of the birth experience
• Comfort measures for labor and birth including coping tools and strategies,
  deep abdominal breathing and relaxation techniques
• Risks and benefits of common interventions and how to avoid needing them
• How to communicate with your caregiver to get the type of birth that you desire
• How to write a birth plan
• How Dad can thrive in his role in supporting Mom and what he can do

All students are required to bring Ina May Gaskin’s Guide to Childbirth.  This can be purchased through Amazon or borrowed from your local library.

More About the Classes

We understand that it takes courage and confidence to plan for a natural birth, and we also know it can be one of the most miraculous and joyful experiences of your life!

The myriad of choices surrounding pregnancy and childbirth can seem overwhelming at times, but we believe in the simple truth that knowledge is power. Our goal is to empower expectant parents to make informed choices.

The first three classes in our series focus almost entirely on the natural process of childbirth. You will learn the physiological and emotional progression of labor. We discuss common fears and concerns and learn tools for dealing with anxiety and the perception of pain. Our students learn and practice proven comfort measures and natural pain management techniques. In addition, we encourage husbands and partners to participate in the birthing process at their full level of comfort.

The last class in our series specifically covers birth in a hospital, including a study of common medical interventions and their risks, how to effectively communicate with hospital staff, a discussion of what it means to provide “informed consent”, and basic patient rights.

We understand that every couple is unique, and we take great pride in respecting and fully supporting all our clients’ choices. We offer education and support to couples seeking a low-intervention hospital birth or childbirth in a birthing center and at home. A key part of our practice, however, is supporting and empowering those who seek the more fully natural, intimate experience of a truly natural birth.

Our conviction is that, when armed with a thorough knowledge and compassionate understanding of childbirth, most women and their partners will find the confidence they need to experience this amazing process in the most natural setting possible.

A Doula Helps At A Waterbirth

This is a class for those interested in becoming doulas and for those who want to know how to help family and friends through labor and birth.

Taught by two doulas who have been doing this for over 7 years and attended over 200 births.

There are countless studies showing that birth outcomes are better for women who have a trained doula at their birth.  Not only that, husbands and wives report that their relationships after the baby is born are much healthier than those who did not have a doula.

Learn To Soothe Your Newborn

For new moms and dads, our newborn care classes will take the fear out of what to expect in the weeks after your little one is born.

It can be almost completely overwhelming to have a new baby and not know how to soothe this little one.  In this class, we focus a lot on measures you can use to quiet and soothe a newborn, and how to cope with crying (for both parents, siblings and baby!)

In this 3 hour class we will teach you how to:

• bathe baby
• swaddle baby
• soothe baby
• dress baby
• change diapers
• calm baby
• find childcare options
• choose a pediatrician, and what to consider
• keep baby safe

Cost for this class is $20 or $15 if you are enrolled in a Childbirth Education class at Mothering Your Way.
